Hello,
I currently received my K1 Fiancé visa for the United States and as excited I am that I will be with my fiancé there are some concerns we have.
He asked me what about your health insurance and I honestly don't know. I was reading there is a possibility to get a health insurance for a short amount of time as I we have 90 days to get married. A visitor medical insurance is that correct? And could I keep this insurance for example until the entire visa process is finished and I have permanent US residency?
Could you inform me more about this?
Sincerely
Caroline
Dear Caroline,
Thank you for contacting us at American Visitor Insurance with your inquiry!. And congratulations on your upcoming marriage!
A person on a K visa (fiancee visa) is eligible for ANY of the visitor plans we have available on our website.
We recommend a comprehensive plan which will offer more complete coverage in the event of a sudden illness or medical emergency. You can have the same policy up to 12 months and some can be extended longer. Also note that with most policies you can extend them as you need to (in case you have to wait for domestic cover, legal papers, etc). Once a person has a green card, then the options are much more limited, but any of our comprehensive plans for visitors will fill the gap well until the person can get onto a domestic plan (which is a very different type of insurance and can cover ANY eventuality; maternity included!).
You can browse options here, please note that comprehensive plans appear on the lower part of the table:Visitors Insurance
One of the popular plan that you can consider is a comprehensive plan shown below:

Hi,
I have a question concerning health insurance. I am a Dutch national, living in The Netherlands. I will emigrate to America, Indiana in the beginning of october. I'm in desperate need of a suiteable health insurance. I have a big problem finding a health insurance in America. I am engaged to an American man and we are going to get married a couple of weeks after i arrive in America. I am entering America on a k1 visa (fiance visa). After marriage is when i can apply for a green card. And that is exactly where my problems lays. Most insurances for new immigrants are based on the immigrant having a green card. In my case, i have to get married first before i can apply for a green card. Until that time i have no health insurance. can you help me by finding a suiteable and affordable health insurance ?I am going to live with my fiance/soon to be husband in Indiana. Hope to hear from you soon, because time is running out for.

Hi,
I am interested in purchasing healthcare insurance from you. However I would like to confirm that I am eligible for the insurance.
I will be coming to the US from Sweden on a K-1 immigrant visa. I am 28 years of age and have no pre-existing conditions and I am not taking any medicines, perfectly healthy. I will marry my american fiancee shortly after arriving in the US.
So I have a couple of questions at this point.
1) Do I qualify for the insurance with being a K-1 visa holder?
2) Does anything change after I marry my american citizen fiancee?
3) Would I after marrying be required to go on my then wife's health insurance?
Regards
Marcus
Dear Marcus,
Congratulations on you upcoming nuptials! You are perfectly eligible to buy any of our "visitor" plans. I recommend a comprehensive plan to fill the gap until you can get domestic insurance. I would recommend going on your spouse's plan as soon as you can since it is much better coverage for you. The plans we offer are for sudden illness and accident only and don't cover wellness check ups and so forth.
Once you get a Green Card (permanent resident status), then you will have more limited options for your insurance (with us). All you need is a social security number to get on a domestic policy (I don't know how long such things take).
You can search for plans using this link American Visitor Insurance.
Let us know if you want a specific quote/suggestion by telling us your age.

Hi there,
I'm going to be entering the US tomorrow on a K1 fiance visa. I would like medical coverage for the period up until I am employed. My question is, are there plans specifically for k1 visa holders? Or am I technically just buying "travel" or "visitor" insurance, the same product I would buy if I were just visiting the US?
Regards
Rosie
Dear Rosie,
Thank you for contacting us at American Visitor Insurance for your K1 visa Insurance needs!
Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials! You are eligible for any of the visitor/travel plans that we offer. Your K visa status does not preclude you from any plan (nor do you get any special ones). Once you get a green card in hand, your options become sharply limited, but any plan will work until that point.
We recommend a comprehensive plan with a maximum of at least $100,000, such as the Patriot America plan (links below). If you want a specific quote, give us your age and for how long you want the quote for. You can purchase a policy to start the following day if you need.

Hi,
My Fiance on k1 visa will be coming on june 1 2016. Does the Patriot Plan cover for K1 visa non citizen with $1000 deductible and 100k maximum?
What is the process and how long does it take for the policy to go into effect? Can I maintain coverage, if needed, 24 months?

I would definitely recommend the Patriot America plan. The policies are all guaranteed so you can purchase them today to begin tomorrow and you can renew for up to 24 months if needed. If you want a specific quote, I will have to know the number of months you want to purchase initially (although the cost will be the same each month) and the age of your fiancee. Dear Sir/Madam,
I would like to purchase Atlas travel Insurance, I will travel on the 5th of November to the USA (Maryland) and i'm going to live there with my fiance (K1 visa). I have tried to apply but there are a few things I don't understand: when I leave over here I don't have an adress anymore in my home country (The Netherlands) can I write down my mom's adress?
Don't I have to mention somewhere that I have a K1 visa? And I have read something about eligibility.." The Atlas Series is not available to individuals who are physically located in the state of New York, Maryland, or Washington or in the country of Canada or Australia at time of purchase".
Can you please help me out? The Insurance plan I would like to buy has a coverage for $1,000,000 and a deductible of $250, I am 38 years old.
If Atlas is not an option, which Patriot Insurance can you recommend?
Thank you in advance.
Kind regards,
Kim
Dear Kim,
Congratulations on your upcoming marriage! I would be happy to answer your questions. For the purposes of the application, since you are applying now from your home country before leaving it, I would use your mother's address in the Netherlands (presumably anything mailed to her she can forward to you). However, if you choose “online fulfillment” all documents will be emailed to you and not put in regular mail.
As long as you are not in the state of MD when you make your purchase, there is no problem with the Atlas plan. The Patriot America plan would also be fine for you. Many companies have issues with the state of MD, so this is not going to be different regardless of which company you go with. However, the policy will be good wherever you want to travel in the US or out (with the exception of your home country). Once you have a green card in hand, then you will no longer be eligible for these policies. We do sell some that you could purchase, but the Atlas or Patriot will fill in the gap for you without a problem (I assume you will go onto your spouse's plan once married).
As to your visa status, no, you do not have to disclose this information. It is possible that if you file a claim, they will ask to see your passport information to verify your status and when you entered the US, but this is usually not an issue.
Here are links for the Atlas and Patriot plans below:

Hello,
I am looking for the health insurance for USA. I am a citizen of Poland and I am coming to USA on a K-1 Visa. Do you offer plan that I can sign up for? This is only for the period before the marriage takes place.
Please provide me with all necessary information as I am looking to buy one.
Thanks,
Aleksandra
Dear Aleksandra,
Congratulations on your upcoming marriage! You are eligible for any of the visitor plans that we offer. I suggest a comprehensive plan like Patriot America. It has excellent coverage and if you buy at least one month, you can extend or renew it with no charge as long as you need it. Be aware that all the policies are for sudden illness or accident, but should take care of you until you can get on your spouse’s policy. Here are links about the Patriot America plan:
Hi,
My fiancee is 35 years old. She will not be able to be added to my policy once we are married. So my question is she still qualified for this health insurance while we are married and waiting for a green card. If not, is there a temporary health insurance during green card period while looking for employment or eligible for Obama care?
Thanks,
Clad
Dear Sir,
She will continue to be eligible for the "visitor" insurance until she gets a green card. Furthermore, if you purchase, say a policy for 5 months and in the fourth month she gets her green card, they will honor the rest of the policy, however you should not renew it any more since her legal residency status has officially changed. I will suggest Patriot America (or Plus) which will cost $78 per month for a $500,000 maximum policy with a $250 deductible. Here are links for that plan:
Hi,
I'm looking for health coverage for a K-1 visa from Philippines. Can you help me?
Thank you,
Clad
Dear Sir,
Certainly, we can! As a legal visitor to the US, a person on a K1 visa is eligible for any visitor health plan we offer. I highly recommend a comprehensive plan, like Patriot America or Atlas Travel. Once a person has a green card, then their options for our insurance become very limited. If, however, they are anticipating being added to a spousal policy, then any of our comprehensive plans would be well suited to "fill the gap".

Hi,
I have my fiancée who is on K1 Visa visiting me here in US. Do you have any plans available for K1 Visa?
Thanks,
Ross
Dear Customer,
Thank you for contacting us at American Visitor Insurance for your US Visitor Insurance needs!
Here are the links for the policy we spoke about over the phone:
Atlas America is a comprehensive plan that is reasonably priced and very popular for people traveling to the US. This plan is also a great option because if you use in-network providers, you only pay deductible and no coinsurance (you pay 20% out of network of the first $5,000 in medical bills).
Dear Sir/Madam,
Hopefully I will be traveling to the US with a K1 visa within a few months. I can't exactly say when, but i'm a planner so i'm already checking out health insurances. On your website I came across a health insurance from Atlas. I would like to ask you a few questions so I can make a decision, of course after I know if and when I will get my visa.
I am 38 years old and I have a pre existing condition (depression) for about 2 years and 3 months now. I take medication to stay stabile. My question is if I would decide to buy a health Insurance at Atlas, if a doctor's visit (for prescription) and medication are covered bij the insurance? And my other question is, if the adjustment of status procedure is done, will the insurance automatically end? If so, what kind of insurance can you recommend me after that?
Thank you in advance.
Kim
Dear Kim,
Thank you for contacting us for your insurance needs. You bring up some excellent questions in your email, let me answer them for you. Although the Atlas plan offers some coverage for pre-existing conditions for persons under 70 years old, it will not cover a doctor visit as you describe for your condition. Furthermore, there are specific medical conditions which are excluded, among them mental health conditions. However, regardless of the policy you purchase, this doctor visit would, unfortunately, not be covered, so you would have to pay for that out of pocket.
The other question in relation to your status is also a good one. The policy is NOT meant for green card holders. However, even if you get your green card while still holding a policy, you would not be immediately kicked off the policy. You should, however, not renew the policy once you have your green card in hand. Any other status, visa from K1 to anything else, is not an issue whatsoever.
Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials. We wish you well and many happy returns! If you have other questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us again!
Hi,
I am coming on K1 Visa to US. If I buy a 6 month policy. Will I be covered to policy end date while going through the adjustment of status?
