Hello,
I am on an H1B Visa and I just arrived in the US one day ago. I want travel insurance that I can have for one month after which I will be qualifying for domestic insurance. I have Canadian PR. Should I enter Canada as my home country? I have an Indian passport.
Is there domestic short-term insurance available?
Thanks for your help!
Rahul

Hi,
I live in the state of Washington and I am on H1 Visa. I am looking for an insurance plans for me to buy. Can you suggest anything?
Thank You,
Rajesh
Dear Rajesh,
Thank you for your email regarding insurance for coverage in the US! As an H1B visa holder, you are eligible for any of the visitor plans that we offer. The main issue with this visa is that if you have been in the country longer than about 6 months (depending on your age) you will be ineligible to buy some plans even if you were previously covered by an employee plan. The last time you came into the country is what "counts" even if you had previously been in the US longer. The same is true for a spouse and kids of the H1B visa holder, if you are only purchasing for them (note you CAN purchase only for your family if you have your own coverage, just know that domestic coverage is more complete and desirable if there could be maternity or pre-existing medical condition coverage required). For the state of Washington, we have some state specific limitations to purchase some of the insurance plans that we normally recommend for H1 Visa holders. Here is one plan that does not have state limitations.
SAFE TRAVELS USA COMRPEHENSIVE: This plan is from the company Trawick International and is a comprehensive plan. Here, you can click on the brochure to open the company brochure which is a pdf document and lists the benefit details.

Hi,
I am looking for medical insurance options. I came from INDIA on H4 dependent visa and had insurance from INDIA for last 9 months. I am looking for options in USA now. Kindly reply me with your quotes. I am currently residing in Los Angeles.
Thank You,
Sindhu
Dear Sindhu,
Thank you for contacting us at American Visitor Insurance for your H4 Visa Insurance needs!
The first option is the Atlas America. This is great option because if you go in-network providers, you only pay deductible and no coinsurance (you pay 20% out of network of the first $5,000 in medical bills). Also, a child under 10 is free with a paying adult so this price is hard to beat! These features make it a really good option for visitors to the US.

Hello,
I need insurance for H4 status. Does it have to be Affordable Care Act (ACA) compliant or can it be Non ACA compliant?
Thanks,
Raj
Dear Raj,
Thank you for contacting us at American Visitor Insurance for your H4 Visa Insurance needs!
For US tax purposes H1-B Visa holders under the status 'non resident alien' are not obligated to maintain ACA coverage. Once they become 'resident alien', they will need to comply with the ACA just like US Citizens. The same rule applies to H4 as well. So, it is not mandatory that you buy insurance that is compliant with ACA.
Here we have a suitable plan for H1- B and H4 holders:
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am a H1 Visa holder from Portugal I am still in Portugal and will be visiting USA. I am in search of health insurance that satisfies the H1 Visa Requirements. I have previously contacted you and you have recommended the Atlas plan. Can you let me know if the trip is canceled and the insurance company is notifified of this situation before the beginning of the insurance coverage date, is it possible to get the complete refund of the insurance payment?
If so please indicate what is the procedure to be considered? How is the request done? What additional information do I have to provide for this feature?
Many thanks for your attention!
Paulo Martins
Dear Sir,
If your trip is cancelled before the effective date of the insurance plan, you are eligible to get full refund of the premium. If the plan is cancelled after the effective date then there is a $25 cancellation fee and the unused portion of the premium will be refunded.
To cancel the policy you will have to send an email to orders@worldtrips.com and mention the Certificate number of the plan in the email and request cancellation.
Hope this is helpful!

Best Coverage
There are several plans available. The plans that have arrival time restriction have a 30 day time period for people over 65 within which after arriving in US, the plan must become effective. For people below 65, the time period varies between 6 months to 2 years within which after arriving in US, the plan must become effective.
Here is information on the Atlas America plan which is the one of the suitable options for H1 Visa holders as it does not have any restrictions on arrival time in the US.
Hello,
I am from India, where I am about to travel US in a month or two along with my pregnant wife(3 months). I really need your suggestions to get the insurance for her preganancy coverage. She also holds H1b visa.
Thanks
Gopinath
Dear Gopinath,
The only pregnancy coverage is Atlas America which only covers "complications" of pregnancy in the first 26 weeks of gestation. So, in effect, it is coverage you hope you do not need. Here are the links for it in case this is all you need:

Hi There,
I’m an existing customer. I have H1B and my wife has H4 visa. Does our existing insurance covers dental cleaning fees? I’m interested in knowing about Dental Insurance. Can you post my question in your online forum and provide me an answer?
Thanks,
Rahul
Dear Rahul,
None of the visitor policies we sell offer coverage for dental cleaning. A few comprehensive policies will cover $100 or $250 flat amount for sudden dental pain to cover partial cost of a visit to a dentist. Most will cover an injury to a tooth as any other illness/ accident. What I usually recommend is to find a dentist that will take new patients and simply ask how much a standard cleaning will be. You can shop around and negotiate a good price for you and your family.
We do offer dental insurance in some states only, but it is meant for long term with only partial coverage (30%) the first year on cleanings, and incrementally more coverage each year. Also, your local dentist might have options for you as well which would at least offer some discount on services.
Be well and thank you for your insightful question!
Please let us know if we can help you in any further.

Hi There,
I am a H4 Visa holder and my daughter is US citizen. We are visiting and going to stay in the Washington DC for 15 days. We are interested in Atlas America plan. Are both of us eligible to buy that plan?
Thanks,
Pallavi
Dear Pallavi,
Thank you for contacting us for your travel health insurance needs! Here are the details for the policy Atlas America we spoke about over the phone:
Atlas America is a good plan for H1 and H4 Visa holders. This plan is suitable for you. For your daughter who is a US citizen, this plan works as per the terms in the Incidental Home Country coverage. Please see the brochure of this plan by scrolling down to see the "Incidental Home Country coverage " section.
Here is the wording from the brochure:
* For U.S. Citizens, for every three month period during which the Member is covered here under, Medical Expenses incurred in the U.S. are covered up to a maximum of 15 days for any three month period. *
As per this, you need to purchase the plan for a minimum of 3 months in which she will be covered for 15 days inside US.
